My friend says I have absence seizures?!
Question: My friend says I have absence seizures?
i am 14 and my friend told me today that I have absence seizures. He says I "zone out" and become unresponsive for a couple of seconds and then continue with whatever I was doing (for instance he said the first time he noticed it was when we where walking and I just stopped and started staring at the ground). My other friends backed him up that I do this.
Apparently I do it a couple of times a day (although I only see him at breaks and 3 lessons a week). My friend says that I do it for a couple of seconds to 30 seconds. He tells me that he says random things like "I am an elephant wearing purple pants" and I have no reaction.
We both have Asperger's syndrome (a significant percentage of Autistics also have epilepsy) and that makes it difficult to tell whether he is joking or not. I asked him to punch me in the arm when I next become unresponsive and then point to the mark and say that is where he hit me when I "come back" so I am sure I will find out soon enough anyway.
Do you think he is telling the truth (and I am having seizures)?
