Can cat hairs get stuck in the lungs?!

Question:

Can cat hairs get stuck in the lungs?

my cousins are worried bec I have 2 himalayan cats.apparently, we have a relative who almost died bec she couldn't breathe bec she had cat hairs stuck inside her.is that possible?

Answers:

It may be possible for cat hairs to enter the airway considering that other foreign bodies such as seeds, nuts, small bits of food, coins, etc. are commonly aspirated. Aspirated foreign bodies can lodge themselves in the trachea, bronchi, and even to the lower parts of the lung fields. Howevery, heavier objects are more likely to progress further down the lung fields.

This is very dangerous as airway obstruction can occur from inhaling foreign objects. Whether your cousin's inability to breathe was caused by this or a possible allergy to cat hair, maybe it might be safer for her to stay away from the cats, wear a mask while she's around them, vacuum the house daily to minimize the amount of cat hair in the air, and that she sees a doctor for an examination of her lungs.
