It has happened to a lot of people. I know people who have quit smoking from trips too. It makes it easier to look at what you're doing. Really all the hallucinogens (like mescaline, LSD, and psilocybin) do is really get you thinking. They let you think in different ways as well.
Like albert einstein said "No problem can be solved by the same level of consciousness that created it". You've gotta get out of that alcoholic mindset.
