I want to be a doctor?

I've wanted to be a doctor since I was 2 years old when Baby Check Up Cabbage Patch Doll came out. It's 16 years later and next fall I'm going to college for pre-medicine. How long does it actually take to be a doctor and what does it all involve as far as schooling and stuff go? I'm not sure what kind of doctor I want to be but I do know that I want to do surgeries and I am interested (right now) in neonatology and neurology. Can someone shed some light on this subject please?

4 years pre-med... 4 years medicine... 2 years internship... I don't know what comes after this...
