advil or alleve, ice or heat, swimming, reducing salt intake, drink more water, don't work out so strenuously, warm up better, yoga, massage, chiropractic, and a visit to the doctor.

the soreness is because your muscles have torn slightly due to higher levels of stress than they're used to and a buildup of lactic acid - both common in workouts (it's how your muscle builds up).

the best ways I've found to treat this is to eat banannas (or anything to increase your potassium), take a warm bath to relax the swollen muscles, drink lots of water and take an asprin or two until the pain subsides to something a little more tolerable.

Now, most importantly, once you're able to move with minimal soreness you should start moving your joints and flexing those sore muscles, lightly at first, so that they don't stiffen up and make it difficult for you to move for several days.
