Why does my child complain about leg pain?!

Question: He is 5, going on 6, and complains daily that his shins hurt. It gets so bad some nights, that it wakes him from his sleep. Any suggestions?

May be just growing pains which are in fact real. Try massage and warm towels. But you need to see his pediatrician to be sure that it is growing pains. Some little kids can get bone pain from very real illness, so don't take a chance. Go see your Pediatrician, If they have any doubts they will order x-rays or an MRI.

Doctor

Do you or your husband beat him on the leg?

growing pains

We called them growing pains as I was growing up. They are leg aches that go away as he gets older. If they get really bad, you can give him some Tylenol before bedtime to help him sleep better.

call the pediatrician

It might be growing pains or cramps.

Try potassium like bananas!

It might be shin splints (peeling bone) or a bone spur (extra bone growth). I developed a bone spur young as well... It can be very painful when a ligament pops back and forth over it. Take him to the doctor and they'll do an x-ray or tests to figure out the problem.

take lotion or baby oil and massage it for about 5 mins and see how it turns out ok hope it helps!

I bet he is growing or maby is kicked there? You need to take him to the Dr's

take to the Dr. my girlfriend is in the hospital with blood clots in her legs she almost died or it could be shin splints get him a good pair of shoes

yep. growing pains. my brother had them when he was that age and couldnt even ride his bike. just ice and take advil when the pain gets really bad and it will go away soon. hope this helps :)

He is most likely having growing pains. He's growing up and getting taller. Congrats! ^-^ Get him some Children's pain killer or get this really nasty power that you put in warm water. Or get Eptsons Salt bath from winco or albertsons. It really helps a lot! :)

it could be that it is growing pains, but did you happen to ask him if he got injured at school or day care or something. how long has this pain been going on? try maybe giving him some children's tylenol or children's motrin if this doesn't help or if it continues get him to his pediatrician please hope this helps

It's growing pains. He is going through a growth spurt. My husband and my daughter both had these when they were younger. Make sure he eats 2-3 banana's a week, the potassium helps this. As far as the cramps when they are happening, rubbing them, and a heating pad can help.

When I was a kid I got leg pains. Terrible excruciating and unbearable. Mostly at night, worse after a day of running and playing. I have no arches in my feet. I mean FLAT!! You can't even slide a dime under my foot. That is why I had such pains. Anterior compartment syndrome is a much less likely possibility. Maybe it's time to make an appointment with a podiatrist.

It could just be growing pains, many children get them at night some tylenol will help.

It could be what is called "growing pains" but take him to the doctor & have it checked out. My son had leg pains when he was a little older & he'd wake up in the middle of the night & cry out for me. I'd rub his legs for a little bit & before long, he'd go back to sleep. His doctor said it was "growing pains."

Take him to the doctor. My friend thought her child had "growing pains" but he actually had a medical condition he needed to be treated for.

Does your child have any other complaints. Mostly nasal speech or speech difficulties.
This is a sympton sometimes associated with VCFS. If no nasal speech then forget this email

growing pains!! I get them really bad too!!

Growing pains are:

A pain or ache in the leg muscles or behind the knees.

It usually hurts in both legs at the same time.

It usually comes at night or when you're asleep, and can be so bad they wake you up.

It doesn't hurt the next morning.

The pain can come on for a few days, then go away and not come back for many weeks or months.

Please check out this website below to ease your mind. Then you can decide if you wish to take your son to the doctor or are satisfied that growing pains are his problem :)
