Rob,
Although I have not personally used OC, I am a RN and often have given both OC and Lortab to my patients. Generally, OC is tolerated well and allows for normal functioning. They should not inhibit you anymore than taking 4 Lortab 10s/day. What you should do is try it on a day off and just see how you feel before returning to work. Your doc is right, do not cut the pill. It will interfere with the absorption. If you find the OC too much for you, let your doc know and you can try something else. Long term pain management is a trial and error process and don't be discouraged if it takes several tries to get the correct balance of pain relief and normal function.
Also, do not let the recent negative media attention aimed at OC dissuade you from trying it. Remember, most of those people are addicts trying it to get high, and are not taking it as prescribed for chronic pain management. I hope this helps!

I'm on 40mg oxycontin. You probably will not feel any difference, if anything probably less euphoric then the lortabs, because you are in real pain. Those of us in real pain know we dont get the "high" that recreationa users get. Oxycontin works for 8-10 hours and every 10mg of oxycontin is equivenlent to taking 7 Extra Strength Vicodin (Lortab). It will give you a more steady pain relief and not having all that tylenol from the lortabs will be much better for your liver. But I promise you its not going to knock you out, it only does that to people that crush the pill destroying the time release agent. Its a fantastic drug for pain. Ive been on it for years. Let me just edit in that its not equivelent to taking 7 lortabs at one time, but the equivelent over a 10 hour period.

Is this your regular doc that prescribed them? If so, it sounds like what I need, because the vic 7.5's arent touching my pain anymore. And Ive been on almost a yr. for back pain
