Question: wat do u think will happen, or usually does? he broke it when we were playign touch football, realy uncompetative and he was runngin so fast couldn't stop himself and ran right into a brick concerte wall.

Well, it depends a lot on the fracture and if the spinal cord itself were injured. C1 and C2 fractures often result in a patient who can't breathe on their own, and are paralyzed from the neck down. In fact, a spinal cord injury at that point is usually fatal unless you are lucky to be near somebody who recognizes the problem in time. An atlas-axis fracture is usually stabilized by surgery to fuse and wire the fracture so it remains stable. Then they spend time in either a halo or SOMI orthosis until completely healed. At the least, when all is fixed and healed, he will probably experience neck pain on a regular basis for the rest of his life.
