Health, doctors and hospitals?!

Question: Do you think we are becomming hypercondriacs? I'm not one for running to the doctors, unless there is some very obvious reason for concern. I think my last visit was 3 years ago with shingles. But, it seems to me that some folk let their health rule their lives and spend most of their time worrying about finding something wrong. Test for this, tests for that. The mere thought of being summoned for testing sends me into panic and then, following any testing, there's the wait to find out if there is anything wrong overcomes me with severe depression. I am a big believer of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" Some of my friends visit the doctors with sore throats, cold and pulled muscles. I've strained many a muscle in my life but, wait long enough, and it's gone away with working through it. What do you think? Is our health taking over our quality of life? After all, none of us are immortal.

I feel the same way as you do. I'm also of the camp that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I haven't been to the doctor in who knows how long. I am blessed with good health and I have a very strong immune system so I'm an over all healthy person anyway, but if/when I do have something come up, for me the doctor is my last resort. I kinda feel that our bodies are designed to combat illness and it's best to let it try & fix itself first before adding some medication to it.

I'm certainly not against doctors or modern medicine (I work in a Dr. office actually), but I think some people run to the doctor for every little thing. You wouldn't believe how many people call us because they "have a cold" and they want something for it. Of course, a cold simply has to run its course, but just to pacify them, our doctors usually prescribe an antibiotic even though it won't do any good.

I'm with you- I've had my fair share of sore throats, sniffles and aches & pains, but they're all quite mild and I give my body a chance to take care of it first before I go to the Doctor...usually it'll be cleared up in a day or two and life returns to normal.

I work with a girl though who is 27 years old and she has 8 doctors....she has one for nearly every body system! She is always sick and is always goingto the doctor for every little thing....sad really.

Have a blessed day :-)

It is my 30 years experience in medical field that It is not the physical health but mental health which make person ill. Yes some times physical illness require some sort of treatment, but most of the time patent's mental stress make him/her ill, which presented as physical illness. Some mental re freshness by Yoga, Prayanam, en joyful communication with Friends, enjoying our work, all will keep illness away from you. I can say with confidence that majority of us has forgotten to take proper breath. If you do this things regularly, than visits to doctors might be reduced to 1/4. I suggest to improve the quality of our health, utilize reserved sours es of our life, a gift given by God!!

It's all very well for you to say that, I can see that you have never been seriously ill. If you were, you'd have a different opinion. I used to have the same attitude before I was taken ill, never took any pills, and was always the one for natural remedies, if any. But it has all changed now. In the past two months, since I was discharged from the hospital, I've been to see the doctor FOUR times, and for minor things like colds and rashes and the like. The reason? The doctors told me to take care of myself, cause my immune system has weakened, and they need to monitor me closely.
So what I want to say is that you are lucky, and you should thank your stars for not having to see doctors, and not be judgemental of other people.

you should go to see your doc

Yes somewhat, some people need a doctor, many don't. Doctors milk insurance companies and insurance companies milk us.
