Temperpedic or Sleep Number?!

Question: My fiance & I need to go new bed/matress shopping soon, and we're interested in people's opinions on these.

We were both in a severe car accident together when we were younger, and both have back problems. No injuries were ever found for either of us, but we still have pain. Mine is severe enough to need narcotic pain medication.

Would either of these matresses help, and if so, which has been better in your experience?
What are the pros and cons of each?
Which do you recommend?

Temperpedic mattress are sweaty because the foam acts as a good insulator and doesn't absorb moister or allow air to circulate through it. The sleep number number still feels like an air mattress regardless of its price. A high quality normal mattress is the way to go, I think.

I've never tried the Temperpedic, but I actually slept on a sleep number a week ago at a hotel and it was horrible. It felt like I was sleeping on a cheap air mattress. I've got a Vera Wang Serta mattress that is great. Just a suggestion...

I don't have either, but my friend has a tempurpedic bed and he loves it, I mean he goes on and on about how wonderful it is. really, I wish I had one.

and he too has a seriously messed up back that has required major surgery

TEMPURPEDIC, hands down!

Either is a good mattress. I would recommend doing your own research into them. See if you can test them at a store. Get a feel for which one you like more. We all have different opinions on which is better...But from what i have heard the temperpedic is more designed to help with your problem.

the temperpedic has the tendencey to make you sweat like a pig- (it hold your body heat well!) don't know about sleep number..... if you are overwight- then i would stay away from the tempuredic....

The only thing i know about the sleep number is that it is very expensive. But, i do have a temperpetic and i will never own anything else again! I dont wanna sound grose, but everyone has loved sleepin in my bed! U have to have nice sheets also! 1000 thread count Eygyptian cottan from "Between the Sheets" The sheets run about 1300 a set, but its what makes the bed so special!

I know nothing on the temperpedic, however, my son was born premature and I had to stay at the Ronald McDonald house until he was better. As nice as it was to have a place to stay in a city I was unfamiliar with, the sleep number mattresses they had were terrible. They were uncomfy, and no matter what # I tried, I couldn't get a good night's sleep for anything!!!
