Are you able to cancel your health insuurance if you have never used it?!

Question: I originally signed up for Aetna health insurance through my company. After geting it, it is horrible. It doesn't cover my choice of birth control, infact, it covers an abortion but not an IUD. That is crazy. Anyway, I have not used it at all. I have been paying for it since the beginning of the year, and my employer tells me that I am stuck with it. Is there anything that I can do?

Usually you can only cancel health insurance during your company's open enrollment once a year. However, if you get another policy, like from a different company, maybe through your spouse, you can sometimes cancel then. I would definitely talk to Human Resources. They know all the available options.

not really, when they had open enrollment that is only when you can add or delete. They have a contract with the company. If possible you can always change jobs. That will cancel the insurance. Good Luck.

You will probably have to buy your own. Good luck, it's really expensive and the older you are, the more it costs. I had Aetna. It wasn't so bad. It sure beats having to pay full cost for it or having none. Maybe you could find out about some sort of supplemental insurance.
