Your doctor lied to you. . . that's not normal. Drink plenty of water and change your diet. You need to put more fiber in your diet like whole wheat, fruits, vegetables, etc. Cut out or down on fried food. Believe me. . . you'll see a difference. For quick relief. . . get prune juice, heat it up and drink it like a tea. Good Luck!

drink more water, eat prunes..the dried ones..see a doctor

You could try prune juice. Or maybe eat a lot of fruit, other than bananas.

Sounds like constipation. You should go whenever you feel the slightest need to, or eat more beans. Eating beans of all types seem to help make them softer. Helped me anywho.

eat things soft, or try something to flush it out. laxatives, salsa, beans.

You need to add a stool softener daily and drink more water. This is what I have to do too.

The same thing happened to my younger brother and sister when they were younger. Drink a lot of water because you probably are eating a lot of carbs and are dehydrated. Also, try Prune Juice and eating more fiber to make yourself more regular so you go more frequently...which will make the amount that comes out less and more managable.

Good luck!

It's constipation! This link has some natural cures instead of buying meds that will hurt you in the long run

More fiber FTW!
Try celery, it's a good source of fiber and it's tasty!

If it hurts you probably have hemorrhoids, I'm shocked your doctor said this was normal, I don't think anything that painful is worth overlooking.

I went through this after giving birth. Prep H should clear it right up!

See another doctor... It should never be painful and should only take between 30 seconds and two minutes.

I feel thats this is not a serious question though... Plug up the toilet?

What I am going to tell you about is NOT a medication but a nutritional supplement. Had to get that out of the way first. If you go to a health food store, ask the clerk to help you find papaya pills, or just buy papaya. Taking or eating this will help out your digestive track really well. Also, do not drink anything until you are done eating-yea, I know it sounds awful, but, if you can make enough saliva while eating, the enzymes in your saliva will help your digestive system. All of this leads up to making you more comfortable doing what you need to do. Good luck and peace out!

I would say try eating lettuce like once a day!

Increase your fiber to at least 30 grams a day and drink plenty of water.
The water being important because your intestines hold the waste and spasm to squeeze out the water for the kidney to use (among other body parts). If there is little water...then waste and bowel movements become hard and cannot be eliminated. The intestines will only squeeze out what is needed...so give your intestines at least what it needs.
Prunes, cherries, plums are all good to soften the bowel movement. Stay away from sodas which like to be totally excreted through the kidneys and hardly have any water content.
High fiber cereals such as shredded wheat help but dont forget the water as its partner. They work together.
Fiber drinks like metamucil, are great...but be patient..they tend to make you gassy for the first couple of days until your body gets used to them. If you take these products..follow it with an extra glass of water. Get a liter of bottle to carry with you at all times. Refill it when needed to save money. Trust me..the body can survive for weeks without food..but water is a must. You are made up of mostly water.
Push the fruits, fiber and water. Stay away from white four products like white rice and white bread. Dont peel your veggies like cucumbers and apples...the peeling is another form of fiber.
If you change your diet to this...your bowels will not be painful...but give it a little time to adapt.
Until the diet kicks in you can start a stool softener (not a laxative). Take it with food or before bed because some people get an upset tummy from it. Let me know if you have any more questions on this.

Hello,...OKAY...Big around bowel movements although they hurt, is GOOD...It shows you have a healthy colon and intestines without blockages...It is later in life when they get smaller due to exposures of chemicals and the collecting of debris along track from unhealthy diets....This is funny...I learned alot about POOP on OPRAH, Dr Oz said it should look like a "s" or "c" or "o".....because our colons are curved.....Anyway Oprah said she then had more questions about poop than Brad Pitt.....NOW...How to fix this....it will come out easier if you eat more fiber....fruit...beans....vegs...if not that because you don't like it....buy a box of 100% fiber from cereal isle...sprinkle that...about a tablespoon on EVERY meal...if you need to sit for hours to make it come out....are you constipated, or is it because of the pain....Are you a GO EVERY day, 2 times a week or 1 time in 8 days kinda person? You might try Vaseline around anus muscles before you go, if you need we can continue this out of the public eye.......God Bless!! Mary

You should add more fiber to your diet, exercise and drink more water. It can help a lot.

u can try eating grape and or raisins and alot of water and or cranberry or you can try milk that helps me.....

Add fiber to your diet or take metemucil.

Its only normal when you do not go enough. Sorry to be so graphic, but you are creating a "plug" by not going enough to the toilet. Sit on the loo for as long as it takes and "train" your body to relieve itself of waste regularly. Also, if you eat a lot of processed junk food, it will screw your digestion up big time. You MUST eat steamed green vegetables such as broccoli regularly. Drink 3 to 5 glasses of water daily.

I totally agree with Karen D. Following that diet would help considerably! The only thing I'd add (and I'm sure she would, too) is that exercise helps to keeps things going, too. Even a brisk walk helps keep everything flowing along smoothly. I've also supplemented my diet with Benefiber instead of those drinks like Metamucil. The fiber drinks were just too much like mucus for me to stomach. Benefiber comes in chewable orange tablets that actually taste pretty good -- kind of reminds me of Flintstones chewable vitamins. The Benefiber tablets are sugar-free, too. Dried fruits are good to soften your stool -- dried apricots and prunes are good for softening the stool.

Good luck! Hope things are running smoothly soon!
