Hi! I am a 50 yr old recovering alcoholic.

I help coach a junior rugby team on sundays.

I also attend a sculpture and pottery calss one evening a week.

At other times I have a vegetable plot that is extremely calming and rewarding.

I read a lot and am undertaking a project to write an epic poem for a bardic storytelling competition. I find some of the emotions assoiated with my past help me to get the creative juices flowing and increase the range of feelings in my work.

I find that anything that involves creativity and/or working with other people really helps. If there is a social side to groups that involves pubs etc. I just say I don't drink and that works fine for me and them. If they ask why not I say I have an alcohol intolerance. ( I don't tell them that it makes me intolerable! :-) )

Finding things that contrbute also give a sense of self worth and reinforce self belief.

The very best of luck to you, I wish you well.

Work out.
Volunteer.
Take a class.

Well done Jon, try working in a charity shop or something like that, whatever you do keep it up, my aunt was found dead on the kitchen floor as she would not give up the drink. Take each day as it comes, and all the best to you xxx

Some charity work is very productive.

Research on the Internet certainly keeps you busy. If you do a lot of health research then you might be able to help people with health questions.
