Sore knee after running... Big problem??!

Question: I am a big guy (6 feet, 270 lbs), a lineman on my football team... i went running a week ago (2.5 miles) and afterwards, my left knee was kind of sore. Since then whenever I plant my left foot, i feel pain where my tibia meets my knee in the front.

This a possible bad injury or something some R&R can fix?

I had the same problem a month ago. I would take it somewhat serious, but if the pain isn't bad (faint or slight) just stretch your calf and thigh muscles. Apply heat (warm not hot) and rub it. Icy Hot could help too. If your knee is inflamed ice it rather than heat.

Take it seriously. If rest and Aleve don't fix it in 10 days or so, go to the doctor.

sounds like shin splints. lots of athletes have it. get it checked by your doctor if you dont it could be the end of your fb career

Might be a torn cartlidge.

do a few light movements and exercises after each practice.
Then put a warm pack and ice pack alternating them.
This works for me shoulder if I over use it. As my collarbone is seperated from my shoulder. So I use the 2 things . Like the icy hot cream and let it relax, as it can pinch my nerve if it gets over stressed. Then after it cools down I use the ice pack on it. to help it go back into place.

After you've done this then sit with your leg elevated while watching tv or whatever to keep the weight and pressure off it for a while. As you dont want to overstress it and do damage too much to it so you wouldn't be able play sports again.

I've had a lot of knee problems and it sounds like your knee is definitely on the verge of a more serious injury. Just be thankful that you have dislocated it yet or torn any ligaments.

Here's some suggestions for strengthening and taking care of your knee.

1. Build up your calf muscles. You will be amazed at how much stress this will take off of your knees.
2. Always warm and stretch before running for long periods.
3. Pay attention to your knee and don't ignore it when it starts hurting. Stop running if you have to.
4. It might help to ice the knee after a workout.

I've dislocated both knees a couple of times and I can tell you it is no fun. Good luck!

Shin splints are in your shin, not your knee. You could have an overuse injury, or could have pulled something. I would recommend seeing your primary and maybe some physical therapy.

I've had to stop all sports that include alot of running due to flat feet. recently discovering im severly flat footed it caused bad pain in my knees, ankles, and lower back. it also affected my posture.
ive been using orthodotics and have noticed it reduces the discomfort, althought they can only help flat feet to a certain extent. i dont know if this will help, but if u continue to have discomfort, get it checked out.

I get that alot and all I do sit down and take a rest if I need to keep going. You should try to work out your knee, just keep bending it back and forth.

sounds like patella tendinitis where the quads joins to tibia. reduce the amount of exercise you do along with ice and compression.
