Hopefully you made out an "incident report" at work...this is very important & is a protective measure for both you & your employer. Sometimes falls/injuries may seem uneventful/unimportant 'at-the-time' BUT sometimes result in residual problems later on. Now, for your injury...You most likely 'stressed' the ankle & just like other weight-bearing joints they are taken for granted by us...REMEMBER the weight this joint constantly tolerates, not to mention the 'impact' pressure! (knees too) Right now you should find a good supportive brace that is fleixble for the activities you are planning on. Several different braces are available through any drug store (WalMart/KMart/Sports Authority etc..)
Wearing support during walking should be a lightweight comfy brace that is thin enough so you can wear shoes but supportive enough for the ankle area specifically ( I bought mine through FootSmart(online) . Another brace a bit sturdier for any sports activities (I bought one at SportsAuthority) where the wrapped area totally holds the ankle straight & supported from twisting & turning! You have indeed weakened the ankle & hopefully it will strengthen somewhat if you do not re_injure it. Taking some 'JointRx' or MSM/Glucosamine may help longterm with lube for the joints. Make sure if ever you have any swelling to elevate the ankle & apply ice for 20 min intervals if you are feeling discomfort. Hope this info helped you some. Take care~
You need to make sure that you have reported this to your supervisor (for Workman's comp insurance) and then go to a doctor. I did basically the same thing about years ago and have had problems with my ankle ever since. Because I didn't report it I had to pay all of my medical bills and lost time (without pay) from work from not being able to stand.
