I'm a third-year medical student. Not quite a doctor yet. However, I think I can answer your question. It is possible to receive a muscle relaxant without proper anestesia. In which case the patient would sort of be in a "locked-in state." Not to worry though. If by some fluke, you did not receive an analgesic (pain killer), then when the surgeon begins to cut on you, your heart rate and blood pressure would shoot up and the anesthesiologist would be tipped off that your not properly dosed. The chance of what happened to that lady happening to you are miniscule. Don't worry man, if you need the operation get it, it will all be okay.

situations like that are rare. have faith in your doctor

very rare you will sleep and it will feel like a min when you wake do not worry i have had 5 small operations heel spurs carpal tunnel never a problem also wisdom teeth out surgically

Hi:
I am not a dr, but you have to be more n detell about what kind of operation you are going to have to compare yours to.that other persons. I have had operation's and every thing went fine. so just relax you'll be ok. don't worry. talkto the dr. face to face before the operation , and ask question's, thats what he's there for. be brave GOD BLESS

I had an emergency appendectomy a few years ago and I had never had surgery before and was freaking out about being anesthetized. I was also freaking out because I know they intubate you (put a tube down your throat) and you have to be "awake" for them to pull it and I hate things in my mouth and didn't want to be awake for that. The doctors said to me "You won't remember any of it!" and I thought "Like hell I won't!!"

I don't remember a damn thing. lol.

I was wheeled into the OR, it was freezing cold, they moved me onto the table, piled warmed blankets (like how they come out of the drier) on me, and then I was in the recovery room in a whole hell of a lot of pain. I have no idea what happened in between. The recovery part was MUCH worse than the actual surgery. Most important thing is to tell your doctor what your concerns are, and tell the anesthesiologist and ask questions about how they make sure you're asleep and they'll be happy to help you feel better about the whole thing.

Good luck with your surgery!
