Acid Reflux! Ugh...?!

Question: Ok so, I have only gotten about 2 hours of sleep tonight. I am having horrible reflux. I can feel the acid in my throat and its burning. It feels horrible. I can't lay down or it feels like I have to puke. I have thrown up a few times already. I took some pepto bismol a few mins ago and that didn't help. I also took a hot bath to relax. Is there anything else I can do. I have an 8 month old who is sleeping. My husband is on a business trip out of town. I really need to find a way to get some sleep! Someone please help me!

SO! this question is perfect for me!! i'm telling you right now, i've had reflux and heartburn for years (i have ulcers) and ive tried all kinds of preventative medications.... in a pinch, nothing works..... except....

go right now and get 1tsp of baking SODA and combine it wih about 1/2 cup water and drink it (it will taste like absolute crap, salty, i reccomend holding your nose and drinking some milk immediately after) right away. in 30 seconds or so you will burp a gas that is like pure acid vapour, maybe several burps. i PROMISE you this will work. if you want to sleep, this is the fastest, most reliable way. if it doesn't work, try a second dose... in extreme cases i've needed it 2x, but then it always works.

stay in an upright position sitting up in bed or in a chair, stay away from spicy food, chocolate, citrus fruit, smoking and alcohol. have something starchy to eat like bread or mashed potato. persevere with the pepto bismol or take an anti-acid

You need an OTC proton pump inhibitor like prilosec but for that you need to go to the store. Do you have some tums or some Milk of Magnesia??

Firstly, if you are older than 45 you must have endoscopy.
Otherwise, you should be tested for Helicobacter pylori.
+ => anti h-pylori treatment and anti reflux medications
- => anti reflux medications.
For a period of time, forget about high fat food and fried ones.

Acid reflux is due to rotting, putrefying, fermenting food in your stomach because you do not have enough stomach acid to digest the food. The pH must get down to 0.8 pH to 3.0 pH range before the pyloric sphincter will open and allow the food to pass into your jejunum. If the pH stays higher than that, the rotting food will generate methane gas and cause your stomach to feel bloated due to the excess pressure and this will put pressure on your cardio sphincter at the top of your stomach and force it to open, causing the acid reflux.

If you do what doctors tell you, and take an antacid, that will neutralize the LACTIC ACID being formed from the rotting, disgusting, putrefying food in your stomach, but it will also neutralize the very thing that you need, stomach acid. So you will end up with a big pile of chyme entering your jejunum that is partially acidic and not acidic enough to cause the cells in the jejunum to produce secretin that will stimulate the pancreas to produce bicarbonate to neutralize the acidic chyme. As this partially acidic chyme goes down your intestines, you will get irritation. This is what causes IBS and those other nasty problems.

The real answer is to take a high quality Betaine HCL and an HCL activator after each meal. This will prevent this problem from happening and you will also digest your food like nature intended.

The real issue is cooked foods. When you cook foods, you eliminate the digestive enzymes found in raw food. This uses up that stomach acid. Also, any scars on the front of your body will cause the parietal cells in your stomach from producing the stomach acid because the scars reflex to the stomach subduing those cells.

You could take an antacid to give you temporary relief, but beware you will get constipation and toxic build up in your liver and kidneys, as well as your intestines when you do this. the baking soda idea will work and give you temporary relief also. But you need to fix the problem for good.

To keep this from happening again, I strongly suggest you do what I do after each meal:

Call: (800) 370 - 3447 tomorrow (open on Saturday) and have them send you:

Betaine HCL -- Take 3 if you are close to 150 pounds, add one more if you are over 150 pounds.

HCL Activator -- Take 1 of these to 2 of the Betaine HCL.

Quantum Digest - Take 1 of these during the meal. If you eat meat, take 2 during the meal.

Also, purchase a large bottle of Probiotic from them. Take one in the morning and one in the evening.

One more thing. The stomach acid is what kills bad bacteria that enter your body from food you eat. There are nano bacteria that cause heart disease, diabetes type II, and kidney failure. If you have low stomach acid, these nano bacteria go to the heart and cause the heart disease, or to the pancreas and attack the tissue there and create the diabetes type II, or the kidney and cause it to fail. This is recent research done by the University of California at Irvine and also the University of Pennsylvania. You need that stomach acid. H.Pylori that causes ulcers are due to this low acid condition as well. As we age, we produce less and less stomach acid and need to supplement because we also don't eat enough raw food.

good luck to you

Sleep sitting up and try this:

I am not a doctor, so either way you will want to talk to them, but this is what I have to say as a long time sufferer of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.)!

Three part answer: information, what not to do, and what to do!

INFORMATION!!!!!!
I have a very severe case of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.). I have had to go to the hospital for some of the heartburn that I have had because the pain can become overwhelming or your breathing can be effected. It can be caused by Smoking, Drinking Beverages with caffeine (My case with hereditary), Drinking Beverages with Alcohol, Stress, Anxiety or can be Hereditary

The good thing about G.E.R.D. is that it can be a temporary thing and can be cured. It is never a permit thing even if you end up with it for the rest of your life it has the ability to be cured.

G.E.R.D. is caused by too much acid being created in your stomach. This can lead to or cause ulcers, esophagus damage, heartburn and/or damage in the mouth. . Other symptoms that can be found in a few cases are dizziness, tingling in limbs, numbness of Limbs, Chest/Back pain focused on the left side (in most cases), and shortness/difficulty breathing.

WHAT NOT TO DO!!!!!!!!
In most cases, stress is a factor to the reflux if you watch what you eat and reduce some of the stress it will help. If you watch what you eat for about a week you should find relief, if you do not then that is when you definitely what to listen to the doctor. Things to watch for are as follows:

Fatty Foods
Citrus Foods
Oranges (Juice and fruit)
Lemon (Juice and fruit)
Foods That Contain Grease
Fried Foods
Potatoes (Starch)
Buffalo wings
Chocolate (including any Coco)
Caffeine
Smoking
Alcohol
Doughnuts
Brownies
Cake
Tomato Based Products
Lactose
Sour Cream
Cottage Cheese
High amounts of Carbohydrates
Roughage (Berries and Nuts)
Onions

WHAT TO DO!!!!
The two foods that I recommend is Black strap Molasses and Raw honey. The apple is better for night time reflux while these will work for just about all of it. What you will do is take about a tsp. of whatever one you chose. Molasses being the better because of strength and nutrition, but must be use to the taste. What the substance will do is stick to the sides of the esophagus and do two things, one is heal and the other is protect.
On the healing end, both substances have a healing property in them, and as they sit on the walls of the esophagus they will heal it. This is also helpful if you have a sore throat in the morning from refluxing.
On the protection end, both substances are high in sugar and when acid that is refluxed comes up to that the sugar will neutralize it and it will not longer be a problem at that point.

I would also look to putting Cinnamon and Ginger in you diet, they have been know to help with digestion and will help you reduce the amount of acid needed to brake down food, therefore causing you to reflux less.
