Should i complain?!

Question: I went for a blood test today, in the morning, i had a friend stay over to take me, i only got 3 and a half hours sleep and had to fast.

The woman who did the test, to me and a few others ive told was unprofessional and needs to be reported, ill tell you what happened and you can judge and tell me what i should do or not.. (also its been 8 hrs since then and im still feeling weak and ive had pins and needles in my arm too)

I went in the waiting room and the nurse comes out and says "follow me" so i go into the room, theres no bed, and i told my friend (who went with me) that i need to lie down when getting a test or at least it has to be quick and comfortable,

anyway the woman took the sheet with the info off me, my doctor had a sticker with my name, age, address,ph. no on it, and she ripped it off and lost that top page and had to ask me for that info allover again and thats the first thing i found odd

She didnt even say "hi my name is" or at least be nice about it,

Say something to your doctor about how you felt you were treated as there is no harm in doing it. You feel you were not treated in an appropriate and professional way and that is important for the people who run the clinic to know as they can make the person go through customer service training if they feel the behavior is bad enough. It can't hurt to tell your doctor but in all likelihood he will make an excuse for the behavior and fob it off.

You could also write letter to the blood collection center where you had your blood taken and directly tell them that there was a worker who didn't identify themselves and had a very poor manner with you. That this woman made you feel more uneasy and sent you off home while you were still feeling very weak and barely able to walk.

Though she probably should have asked you if you were likely to faint having not taken blood from you before, you also could have told her that you have a tendency to faint at the sight of blood. When ever I have had blood taken, the collector has always asked me if I was ok sitting up or if I would prefer to lie down. Personally I am an old hat at getting blood taken after 3 babies but it has never been a big deal for me to get blood taken but this isn't for everyone and there would be a lot of people out there just like you who would be afraid of needles and/or the faint at the sight of blood and not know it yet so she could have stood to be a little more considerate in this case.

I personally don't feel that being over worked or battle hardened in the industry is any excuse for that kind of treatment. It costs nothing to show a little compassion and empathy.

If you can, go to another collection center next time and be sure to let them know that you
a. are nervous (they will possibly be a little nicer to you) and
b. might faint.

I hope your next blood test goes more routinely.

Terrible bedside manner

It would be easiest to switch clinics or doctors and let somebody else take the trouble of making a complaint.

Are their more Details to that or not? With the details that you have given I don't think there is really anything out of the ordinary - some nurses are just like that - I get this all the time Plus i'm related to two nurses. They are usually really busy. But if you really think you need to report her -you can always talk to the hospital head and if she feels the need to talk to her then she will or she'll at least have it in mind to keep and eye out for more complaints. It's really up to you.

Well, was she new on the job? Nobody should be treated this way, yet i think it would be O.T.T (over the top) to make a big deal out of it.

But it probably would be good to complain.

Just read your additional details... yes terrible terrible, write a formal complaint ... just give detail, your name and time and date and they can figure out who it was, if they care to... that was not good... from now on, do make a point of getting a bed, since you know your history with needles... insist and don't be shy about it. Unfortunately, you have to be pushy to get good care sometimes....

you shouldnt complain unless its gonna bother you to death untill you complain. but iv been in much worse situations and didnt do anything and im not the kinda person that takes sh*t from ppl. theres a lot of bullsh*t in this world and its only just begun for you i promise

from what you're saying, the woman was a little bit unprofessional but i don't think it is worth a complaint. in many cases hospital workers are simply overworked. and if that is not the case unless she harmed you or her assessment of your condition was wrong there is no rule being violated. in other words, you will only be complaining about something that wasn't too important. i'm sorry but this is my honest opinion.

You could complain.

For the weakness you're feeling, that's called a vasovagal response, and it's normal.

You could complain on the basis of unfriendliness, but be aware that pathologists will often ask you several times for all your details as part of the proceedures that their company has in place to ensure they don't mislabel the collection tubes (as this is a common and serious problem).

Chances are she was doing her job correctly, but she was just has a bad bedside manner.

Hope that helps

I can not stand it when you go into a doctors office or some other profession where they are working with people and they are totally rude and unprofessional. If they are going to be working with people, especially in a medical field, they need to have a smile on their face and be friendly. Even if it is fake. Fake it, I don't care. But don't be a total snob and act like you are being forced to be there. I took my son to the eye doctor. He had to get his eyes checked so they had to use drops. This so-called nurse, drenches my 4 year old son with drops all over his face and then when we are walking out she looks at the drops funny and says she might have used the wrong one's. I was _issed! That is so unprofessional. And she was rude to top it all off. She didn't even talk nice to my son or have a slight smile on her face. She was a crab. I complained to the lady in the main office about her. They said she used the right drops too. Sure. My son was very upset at the treatment he got. I was very very upset. So, yes I can relate to your story. She was very unprofessional and it probably wouldn't hurt for you to tell her manager how unprofessional she is. Maybe she will take her job more seriously and not be rude to future patients.

you should complain, because you paid for the service with your insurance or your money, and you should desire good service.

I say report her to the office manager and your doctor
There is no excuse for this behavior (or room for it, in the field of medicine) and she didn't sound like she had very good technique at all
I am speaking as a nurse and a patient

'Fasting blood.' 1. Nothing to eat after 21:00 hours. 2. It is all right to drink water though. 3. You ought had slept longer, since, 3 and half hours, is (obviously) not 'enough' - for a reasonable period of rest. 4. Blood could be taken (the Nurse having 'sourced' a suitable vein) whilst you are sitting in a chair (not a bed) and your 'gaze' could be averted (if the sight of needles and blood makes you uncomfortable.) 5. The Nurse is not obliged to give you her name. 6. Hospitals are fairly busy places with far more serious 'priorities.' 7. Taking blood ought take about 1-2 minutes - maximum. 8. If you feel that the Nurse was insensitive (and we all have our sensitivities) then make a formal complaint as to her (the Nurse's) inability at fulfilling your 'minimal service expectations.' 9. Nevertheless; on the Balance of Probability, I think that there are grounds for a complaint.

you come on here asking a question "should i complain?"why is it that you cant handle someone's answer if they dont agree with you?
