They check for rmotor neuron function. to determine the conscious movement of any extremity. This can also serve as a tool to gauge the level of unconsciousness.

I think they do it because if you are unconscious then your body is relaxed and cant hold anything up.

I think its to check for a pulse.

if your not a doctor you don't need to know these things.

im pretty sure to check for the pulse. other wise they would do it to their leg or something to see how reactive it is! they check your heart rate basically!

It's kind of a secret for the medical community. Your knowing about it's reasons would undermine the quality of the test on you. Overall it's best if you don't know.

Some people FAKE being unconscious for a million reasons. Likewise their are at least four 'tests' to do and they will show the Medical Person IF the unconscious patient is faking it, or is really unconscious. That is why the Doctors do the arm test. One of four tests! Best of Luck
