I took ambien 5 hours ago - is it safe to take another?!
Question: I've been on ambien for months - i tried ambien cr but couldn't stay asleep - this is the first time that i've been wide awake after taking a regular ambien - does anyone know if it's safe to take another. I know i could call my dr. or a pharmacist but it's too late at night to do that.

Did you just go back to taking regular Ambien from being on Ambien CR? If so, you could be having a bit of "rebound" from being on a longer acting medication. In other words, your body thought it was supposed to have the Ambien CR, and since it doesn't, it's putting up a fuss!
I would recommend you take the Ambien as it is prescribed by your doctor. That is the safest way, as he/she knows you and your regular medication regimen best.
That being said, regular Ambien only works (well) for about 4-5 hours. I've seen some doctors prescribe for a second dose if a patient is not asleep an hour after taking the first (usually at lower doses, though, and as part of a whole medication regimen, as Ambien is not ideally for long-term use).
no!! call a pharmacy that is open 24 hrs
You are only supposed to take one a nite. Sounds like you have become tolerant of it & it's not working for you anymore, meaning your body wants more of it to have any affect on you for sleep.
Ambien is addictive, talk to your doctor about this.
dont! u mite overdose on accident!
Ambien CR and Ambien work just as well as each other. Ambien CR is only around because Ambien's patent expired. They both work for about 8 hours. You should only take one per night.
You are dependent on Ambien. You have been using it improperly.
