Swollen, painful foot after injury. Broken?!

Question: Swollen, painful foot after injury!. Broken!?
Im an idiot and I kicked a table today (long stupid story wherein I look more like an idiot!) I hit it with the top of my foot and landed the bones that go from your first 2 toes to your ankle (across the top of your foot) right on the corner of a table!. It IMMEDIATELY started to swell and is purple!. Its not super purple but it is swollen!. I can walk on it with a fair amount of pain!. It hurts if I move it!. Ive had it up with ice on it but its been about 3 hours and is still pretty painful!. Our insurence is terrible and Im wondering if I should go in and have it checked!. If it were broken, I wouldnt be able to walk, right!? Thanks!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
what you are describing are the metatarsel bones!. As you know, there isn't a lot of padding on the top of your foot, so you could have broken these bones!. Swelling occurs from soft tissue damage and possible injured blood vessels!. Contrary to popular opinion, you can still walk on a broken foot, albeit painful!. You are doing the right thing by elevating and applying ice, you might also wrap it with an ace wrap for support, not so tight as to cut off circulation!. The only way to tell if you have a broken these bones is with x-rays!. If your insurance requires you to call your primary physician, then do so and make an appointment to be seen!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

sounds to me like you broke it!. i got kicked in the foot playing soccer and my foot did exactly what you described!. started as a small bump and worked its way to my whole foot being swollen!. no discoloration until about 2 days after i broke it!. and im a freshman in college and was able to walk to class on it, but thought it wasnt broken since i could walk!. a trainer told me that i didnt need to go to the doctor unless the swelling didnt go down or grew!. if your insurance is terrible, i would wait another day if you can to make sure its not just a painful bruise!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
