Question: I've just started having physio on my knee is it a bad idea to!.!.!.!?
I've had a knee injury for a little while but only just been to doctors!. I'm having physio on it but it isn't a severe injury!.

I forgot to ask if it is a bad idea to run on it, i've got exercises to do and recommended swimming, is it a bad idea to do a few short runs just to keep my fitness up!?!?

I should ask the physiotherapist, running can cause problems depending on what the injury was!.!.!.!.running is an impact sport where the knee is jarred on each movement, so swimming is probably a better option in the early stages or cycling as they excercise the knee joint, but without the impact!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Depends on the injury and how far into treatment/healing you are!.

Phone the physio and ask them to call you back - they probably will if it's a quick question like this!. Much better than trying to second guess it from dodgy ananymous "advice" on the net!. Don't assume swimming is okay just because it's low impact!. Breast stroke swimming, in particular, can be about the worst thing you can do if you've got rotational/ instability pathologies!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Its probably best you ask your physio who will know best whether running will cause irritation to the knee and delay the healing process!. When you do things outside of the recommendations of the person who is treating you it makes it much more difficult to treat you, especially if you dont disclose to the physio the activities you are doing!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It depends how severe the injury is, the physio should be able to tell from his resistance tests if you are any where near running!. I would keep at the swimming for fitness, but if you must run do straight line runs, therefore reducing the risk of further injury in turning!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've had surgery on my right knee and the main reason is because I ran and jumped even when it was injured!. My advice would be to just take your time and stick to therapy!. Besides, swimming is a great way to stay fit!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Swimming is great and good for cardio/fitness as well!. Running places pretty intense impact on the knee so I would avoid that until the doctor or therapist says it's okWww@Answer-Health@Com
