Tips for dealing with military health insurance?!

Question: Tips for dealing with military health insurance!?
I have a chronic knee issue and have been to one doctor after another, all of whom say I need a specific type of surgery on it!. It has already been established that no one on base is qualified to do this surgery!. The orthopedist who looked at it last wanted to send me to an off-base doctor, which would only have required an out of network referral!. Instead, they keep sending me to one doctor after another in the same hospital, passing it off to someone else!. This has been going on for almost a year, but nothing has been done since October besides passing papers around!. I've been told by numerous doctors that the longer I let this go, the worse it will get - and I believe them because last weekend I dislocated my knee AGAIN!. Is there anything I can do to get these people to get off their butts and do their jobs!? I've seen about five different doctors and none of them have done ANYTHING yet!
btw, I'm a civilian - my husband is military!. That may make a differenceWww@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
You are a dependent as long as he has you enrolled in DEERS!. If you have a Military ID you are military as well when it comes to services!. ( I am an Ombudsman for Navy families) I have been Married to the Military for 20 yrs!. I hope I can help a little!.!. Your right about the referal!. Each clinic or hospital has a customer service officer!. that is were you go if you are un happy with your care!. however!. I would ask the Drs that are telling you what needs to be done that you will no longer accept being passed around the clinics on base and wish an outside referal for this condition!. Actually your Primary care provider can give it to you as long as you ask and have the paper work to show you have been around the block at the clinic or hospital!. If that does not work then use the Customer service officer!. They should be posted at the clinic or hospital each department has one!. We live in Atlanta, and we have no choice but to use outside services!. As well as my husband who is active duty!. has been the same - clinic refered him out to civilian dr for surgury his shoulder then they did the surgery as well!. Hope this helps!.!. But it should not be due to civian you are a dependent if registered with DEERS and that is your benefit!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
