How long will it take for me to walk again after taking 2 pins out of my foot?!
Question: How long will it take for me to walk again after taking 2 pins out of my foot!?
I will be taking out 2 pins out of my foot after 6 weeks of casting!. I was wondering how long it will take for me to walk again (normally)!. I know it depends on how fast your muscles strengthen or get used to it, but i was wondering about the range of time!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hello there Amanda,
Well, I'm 55 and I just had pins removed after 6 weeks of casting!. As soon as the cast was off I was walking on it fully weight-bearing, though I favoured it for about a week because it seemed so fragile (but it really wasn't!.) Muscle strength was fine!. I didn't even have a deficit!.
I have been getting intensive physiotherapy two to three times a week, and that really helps!. I have about 80% mobility of the joint in question now after 6 weeks of physio!.
It doesn't really hurt any more, but it still swells, and that's uncomfortable!. That's normal for feet because they're dependent (gravity, blood flows downhill, and the blood vessels were severed during the surgery!.) I'll be glad when that's resolved!. The orthopaedic surgeon who fixed my foot said to expect swelling to clear up after about six months!.
I ice and elevate every evening when I get home from work and have a cold pack on it when I go to bed!. I had to get wide shoes temporarily (Birkenstock sandals) because of the swelling!.
Hope this helps!.

How fast you walk again is dependent on how strong your mind is!.
If you're not going to make yourself get up and exercise your foot then you will be down longer!.
There is no real set amount of time as it is different for everyone!.
I had a friend who was in a motorcycle accident!. He was sideswiped by a semi truck that lost control of the load!. The doctors said he might never walk again!. Today after 6 months of surgery and rehab with his prosthetic leg he is walking!.
It all depends on how strong your mind is!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com
