Advice for healing Chondromalacia Patellae (Runner's Knee)?!

Question: Advice for healing Chondromalacia Patellae (Runner's Knee)?
I'm a teenage girl and I've been having problems with my knees for as long as I can recall. I was an all-star cheerleader for many years as a child and I'm training to play tennis at my school; I also go running very regularly. I saw the trainers at my school about my knee problems. They told me to see my doctor but that it is most likely runner's knee. They also said that I should stop running for a while and be easy on it, icing regularly, taking ibuprofen for the pain, taking glucosamine-chondroitin for the joints, and gave me a few exercises to do on my own to help. I'm fixing to go see my doctor but I was wondering if y'all had any other remedies to help or any advice??? Thanks!

Answers:

Have them send you to a physical therapist. You probably need strengthening exercises (you may have a muscle imbalance or weakness), may have an alignment problem and may benefit from shoe orthotic or knee brace (sleeve) to control your knee cap movement. Need to find out what is causing the problem. Physical therapists treat these all the time.
