I won't stop bleeding...even after applying pressure. What am I doing wrong?!
Question:
I won't stop bleeding...even after applying pressure. What am I doing wrong?
This isn't in general, this is just from a little cut I recieved today. The cut itself isn't deep, or very large. It's in fact, the size of a pencil tip. It is located on the outside of my right arm, just on my wrist. I don't know what I did, but I was shopping in the store, and the next thing I knew, I had blood running down all over my arm. Maybe I'm over-reacting, but the amount of blood that has issued from this little scratch is way too much. Could it be possible that I hit a vein in my arm?
Answers:
You have to apply continous pressure for at least 3 minutes, and that means no peeking! Make sure the spot stays dry so a small scab can form. Even if you hit a vein, it will clot off. It's not like a major artery that keeps on bleeding.
Roll up a piece of gauze and place it over the cut. Put a piece of tape or bandaid tightly over the gauze. Do NOT remove it until morning. If you notice bleeding problems continuing, make an appointment with your doc and have a couple lab tests done, just to make sure your clotting factors are ok.
