I've had hip replacements done on both hips, and today I was jumping around and !

Question:

I've had hip replacements done on both hips, and today I was jumping around and now I am in pain.?

Should I just rest or make an appointment with my orthopedist. I was jumping rope today but had the replacements done 5 years ago when I was 18 and the other when I was 19. I feel a little bit fine when I walk, the problem is lifting my legs for example to walk up the stairs or get in or out of the car.

Thanks in advance

Answers:

Regardless of the reason for your hip replacements (was it dysplasia?) jumping rope is definitely not the activity of choice for a hip replacement patient of any age. But you probably already know that. As another answerer has said, give it a few days and if things don't get better, go ahead and see your orothopod doctor.
And, please, in the interest of preserving your fake hips, stop all high-impact activities, especially at your young age. These activites include jogging, running, any sport that requires jumping, singles tennis, basketball to name a few.
You were very young for one hip replacement. And you have two? They don't last forever. Their life is finite and your hips cannot be revised (replaced again and again) indefinitely. The idea is to make your hip outlast you, but at 18, that's almost impossible. It is very likely that you will face at least one and maybe more revision surgeries sometime. Try not to make that time too soon. Revisions are more difficult surgeries than primary hip replacements and have more complications, and may have a less satisfactory outcome than the primary surgery had. So do try to take better care of them.
End of lecture.
I had both of my hips replaced when I was 3x your age. I'm crossing my fingers that my hips will outlast me.
