I have sharp pains in both my joints for my thumb. Could this be arthitis?!

Question:

I have sharp pains in both my joints for my thumb. Could this be arthitis?

I am only 20. I have jammed my fingers playing basketball and other sports but not alot. Could it be from playing on the computer? Could it be my gamepad is not ergonomic enough?

Answers:

You need to do the following for the next week or so:

REST: Rest and elimination of activity which aggravates the injury/pain.

ICE: Apply Cold to stop pain and restrict excess Fluid to the injury.

COMPRESSION: To further inhibit swelling caused by excess Fluid to the injury.

ELEVATION: To further inhibit swelling caused by excess Fluid to the injury.

Take an anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen to help with the pain and/or swelling.

If you follow the R.I.C.E. method and the pain is resolved then you return to playing video games, etc. and the pain returns, then you will know what the aggravating activity is.

Yes, you can get arthritis at any age but is is very unlikely at your age unless it is Rheumatoid Arthritis and that usually effects more than just a couple joints.

GOOD LUCK!
