Bone marrow donations?!
Question: Bone marrow donations?
Also would it make more likely to get an infection if a grandparent on each side of my family both got debilitating infections from staff, where the bones had to be literally removed?
So basically what is the risk of permanent, or long-lasting damage?

As with any invasive procedure there are always risks, but as far as any tendency to get an infection for hereditary reasons, they are not related. It is a sterile procedure and is done frequently around the world. Any instances where an infection of any kind develops it is the rare exception and your grandparents got a double whammy so to speak. So rest easy the procedure is safe. If you are under 18 though you will still need both your parents permission or the custodial parent in the case of a divorce.
I hope this helps you and good luck on the registry, I've been on it for YEARS and still have not donated. I've gotten called for testing but I never turned out to be a close enough match but I keep hoping.

essentially, unless you already have an underlying infection, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
it's a sterile procedure.
