Question: Is Scratching as Bad as Cutting?

Is using a sewing needle as bad as cutting your wrist. I just scratch my wrist sometimes till it bleeds I don't know what to do anymore. I mean everything is just confusing I don't know if I should tell my mom or ignor it.
