I think the number of heart beat is very important it is one of the signs that shows if your heart has problem or not.I know a person who used to fall down suddenly a lot she went to the doctor and with monitoring they understood it's bacause of her low heart beat.
People with certain heart problems monitor their heart rate to make sure it is not beating too fast or too slow. If you are on a heart medication such as digitalis you cannot take it if your heart rate is below 60 beats per minute. Beta Blockers will also lower your heart rate so anyone taking those should take their pulse before taking their medicine especially if they think it is slow. Athletes frequently monitor their heart rates during a work out to see if their work out is being effective. In the hospital if anyone comes into the Emergency Room with chest pain we will place them on a heart monitor to see if there are any abnormal beats or if they are in an abnormal rhythm such as Atrial Fibrillation. Abnormal rhythms can be very serious and need to be treated quickly. You can also see on the heart monitor if someone has had a heart attack or is in the process of having a heart attack. My first name is Cindy. As for my age...I've been a nurse for 30 years.
