What is your favorite remedy for muscle cramps?!
Question:
What is your favorite remedy for muscle cramps?
Here’s some free advice.
First. Stretch the cramped muscle; if the muscle is bending a joint, straighten it; if the muscle is straightening a joint, bend it. Bottom of foot; bend toes toward head. Back of calf; bend ankle so toes are up. Back of the thigh; straighten knee.
Second. Dilute a teaspoonful or two of vinegar with enough water to make it drinkable; drink it; the cramps should be gone in less than a minute. I don’t think the type of vinegar matters; they all have the active ingredient—acetic acid.
Third. Drug companies and their henchmen in the medical profession want to keep this cheap home remedy a secret so they can charge an arm and a leg to treat your arm or leg. So, after you try this, tell all your friends if it worked.
Fourth. Carry a small amount of vinegar on long hikes or bicycle trips; the little plastic vinegar packs at some fast-food restaurants are perfect.
Fifth. Take a daily mineral supplement and eat foods that contain potassium, like bananas.

Cherie, I'd like to know more about the wheat bag. Is it like whole grain wheat in a bag? Do you heat it and apply to the cramped muscle? Do you moisten it? How long do you apply it, and how soon do you get relief?

I really like the vinegar idea - it makes sense. I was going to suggest taking potassium in the form of salts if it is an ongoing problem - although providing through diet is obviously a better way (unless you dont like foods high in potassium) As a sports therapist I obviously would recommend massage followed by heat (bath or wheat bag) Next time anyone comes to me with cramp I'll pass on your tip and see what happens - Thanks
