Has anyone had an operation on their shoulders for torn ligaments?!

Question:

Has anyone had an operation on their shoulders for torn ligaments?

If so how long was the recovery period?. I have a parital tear in one shoulder and a full tear in the other. I am still waiting for my appointment with a surgeon.

Answers:

I had 3 of them already. Usually recovery takes anywhere from 1-2 years. My first surgery went ok, the second one I had problems, the 3rd one I recovered nicely, but to be able to have the full range of movement again can take up to 2 years.
When you had this surgery make sure that physical therapy is first working on the range of movement and then working on building strength---that's what really had messed me up. Physical therapy can be too rough. My doctor prescribed 4 weeks of range of movement and then another 6 weeks or so on building strenth. He prescribed swimming because I went already and it is the absolute best way to rebuild your shoulder and arm after that surgery.
Good luck...
