How do you treat a bruised or broken tailbone?!
Question: How do you treat a bruised or broken tailbone?
Answers:
To my surprise, doctors don't do much about it, even when it's broken, if you can function. (Mine was broken.) "Function" doesn't mean live free of pain, it means walk around, use the toilet, be able to bathe and dress yourself, go to work or school, like that.
They advise OTC pain medication, heat if it helps (ice only helps in the first day or two), and watching where you sit, avoiding hard surfaces. A doughnut may help if sitting hurts. I got real good at sitting backward on hard chairs, so my butt wasn't on the chair at all, like some teenagers sit. Like you, I could sit, but getting up took an act of courage.
This is an injury which heals slowly; I was six months in, and still in pain, before my doctor agreed it was time to do something more. I got two cortisone shots--that was fun! (not)--and it healed within the next six weeks or so. Never bothered me again.
They cant do anything - a girl in my class bruised hers so badly she had to in an ambulance on a spinal board and they couldnt do anything for her. These things take time
I bruised mine bad once. Donut pads help take the pressure off of you tailbone when you sit down.
