Need advice on a painful thumb, Possibly a professional.?!
Question:
Need advice on a painful thumb, Possibly a professional.?
I hurt my thumb over a week ago and went to the accident and emergency department to get it checked out, they did an x-ray and told me that there wasn't any broken bones and that I've probably just sprained it but over the last 2-3 days the pain has got worse and it is constantly aching. there isn't and never has been any swelling or bruising and i can move it but when ever i put pressure on it thats when it hurts the most. I've also been taking paracetamol and ibuprofen together as advised at the hospital and have tried putting a bandage on it for support but it just seems to be getting worse. Any advice would be great. Thanks.
Answers:
Where on your thumb does it hurt? Pain at the base of the thumb may indicate a tear in the ulnar collateral ligament (known as gamekeepers thumb or skiers thumb). I think a splint to immobilize and support your thumb would help. I think going to see an orthopedic or hand specialist doctor would be beneficial also.
