How do chunks of contacts come out?

I took out my contact the other day and it had a chunk missing out of it. How does that happen?

No, I mean chunks of the contact come out of the contact. I was wondering how that was possible when it was in my eye.

Answers:

You may have torn the edge of your contact with your fingernail while handling it.

Perhaps the tear got wider and wider as you blinked throughout the day, and a piece off the edge came loose.

Then, I suppose, the piece traveled into either your upper or lower lid, or behind the eyeball. Maybe you blinked it out or rubbed it out of your eye entirely.

See your optometrist or an ophthalmologist. If it IS still in there, you may need help getting it out.
