Hubby got a fire extinguisher blasted into his face, how to relieve the pain/bur!

Question:

Hubby got a fire extinguisher blasted into his face, how to relieve the pain/burning/swelling?

Some smart *ss punk of a kid blasted my hubby in the face with a fire extinguisher. The paramedics washed his eyes out with the saline rinse and told him they would be sore and puffy for the next day or so. He looks so pathetic, and I know it is really bothering him. Other than a cold wash cloth across the eyes, is there anything else he could do to help relieve the discomfort?

We are not sure what kind of extinguisher (A,B,C or combo). It was a white cannister, the kind you find in large apartment buildings in the hallway, if that helps.

Thanks in advance!

Answers:

okay this is MY OPINION...

this probably does not warrant an E.R. visit. there is not a darned thing the ophthalmologist on call at the E.R. is going to be able to do for your husband. the paramedic is right on this one. in fact, when the nurses tell the on-call ophthalmologist at the E.R. what happened, its doubtful IMO that the ophthalmologist will even come down there to see your husband.

there's not a lot anyone can do besides flush it out and wait 2-3 days for the resultant toxic keratitis to resolve. some people advocate antibiotcs and steroids, but they dont really work. the theory there is to just prevent secondary bacterial infection.

again this is all my opinion, so take it for what its worth.

*chilled* artificial tears work pretty well to soothe...

pretty much all you can do is wait.
