I keep on thinking how this year is going to the BeST but then I think wait I'm gonna have to get my shot! I dont know what to think!

Answers:

I hate needles. I am 44 years old and know that having shots is part of life and living well so that I do not have diseases that would be worse than the vaccine. However, it does caue me greif and worry too. First, I do tell myself that no matter what I have to have the shot. It makes me mad at my grown up voice telling me I have to do it. But that is ok. I can be mad, I still have to do it. Then, I do tell my nurse that I hate shots and that I am really nervous and mad about it, but that I promise to try to be good. This makes them laugh and it also makes them take good care of me. I give myself permission to make faces or even cry,and I tell the nurse that too..."I might CRY!" then I relax and try to take the shot without being mean to anyone. I have a teen daughter that I ask to hold my hand sometimes. She thinks I am a nut. But, then once the shot is over I always buy an icecream for us both. We have a pact, if she gets a shot we both get icecream . If I get a shot we both get icecream. Once it is over with you can be happy and glad, It is just that one moment of discomfot you have and it will not be that bad. Then you can have the BEST year ever. Until then, make yourself a plan. Have your mom tell you what the date is of your appointment for your shot. Write it on the callendar. Now, promise yourself that you will not worry about it until that day. The day of the appointment give yourself permission to worry all you want, then make sure you talk to the nurse about being scared and mad about it (Milk it honey! They are good with sympathy for kids!) Then make sure you plan your reward for yourself (remember mine is icecream!) so you have something to celebrate with! I think it all helps to no be overly anxious and you set aside the time to be anxious about it so it doesn't ruin anything else! I wish you well, and know that you are not the only needle wuss out there!
