Can a person's eye color change over a period of time?!

Question:

Can a person's eye color change over a period of time?

Like, get lighter?

Answers:

I see people here saying they can get lighter. I suppose that is possible, and I'll believe them on that (it isn't hard to believe), but my experience is with them being darker. My eyes have always been somewhere in the range of some shade or mixture of grey, blue, and green. As I've gotten older, they seem to be green more often (the darker of the colors I mentioned), and when they are blue, they are not as light of a blue as they were when I was younger. Sometimes they may be a mix of these two or may have some grey mixed in, but the point is, they are darker shades of these colors and color mixtures (never pure grey, which I don't think they ever were that). They still change colors a bit back and forth.

Also, as someone said, light affects the color. My cousin has hazel eyes, but when she is in the right light hers actually get this strange color of ....almost yellow. They are bright and very wild looking. They remind me of special effects contacts, actually.

Furthermore, the color of clothes you are wearing or makeup (such as eyeshadow) or the colors surrounding you may make your eyes appear slightly different in color. When I wear blue, it brings out the blue in my eyes sometimes, and when I wear green, it sometimes makes the green stand out. Also, black tends to make them look dark green. They have even made eye makeup in colors that will help certain colors of eyes stand out. I can't recall the brand, but they make eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara in the appropriate colors for several different eye colors.

This is going to sound odd, but one night, being fairly sleepy, and having sat through a 3 hour movie, I ended up back at a hotel, in the bathroom and when I glanced in the mirror I thought my eyes were the brightest green. Abnormally light for me. When I finished up in the bathroom I returned to the mirror, but my eyes seemed normal. I don't know if I was seeing things, or if they really were that color.

Anyway, a lot of babies are born with blue eyes that change to other shades. Plus, having eyes that switch between shades of blue, green, and grey is not abnormal. Furthermore, disease and trauma can change eye color from what I am told.

Okay, I just did a web search and yes they can lighten and darken with age and can change color from disease. Also early trauma can cause change in eye color (at an early age). Do a net search and you will find a lot of sites and articles on this.

Actually, I just found this- "Eye color can change with age or disease. In some people, eye color may change quickly, depending on mood, health, and even color of clothing. The mechanisms of such changes are not well understood." I knew clothes could change the way your eye color looked, as I mentioned it above. However, I do not really think the clothes change the color of your eyes. I think they just make that color in your eye more noticeable. White stands out more on a black background than it does on a pink one right? But the colors are not changed. They just appear differently. Anyway, I got that above quote from here- http://www.hhmi.org/cgi-bin/askascientis...

According to another site- "The eyes cannot change color with mood changes. They aren't related in any way. Perceived color changes may occur if the pupil size changes. If the iris has color variations between the outer ring and inner ring, then changes in pupil size can enhance the color of the area most visible at that moment.

A few eye medications for glaucoma treatment can change the color, but this takes months and is irreversible. Light brown, green, and hazel eyes tend to turn darker. Blue eyes are hardly affected by this drug. " The site saying this is here- http://www.netwellness.org/question.cfm/...
