Crude and rude I know, but seriously, it's driving me insane! I can't think of any non-gross explainations!

I would say the same way you do. If its messy, wipe more, if not, wipe normally. Even though we are blind, we can tell if it is messy or not. As you can feel not being clean, so can we.
