My eyeball...?!

Question:

My eyeball...?

okay, so last night i got home at about 2AM and fell asleep without taking my contacts out. when i woke up, i looked in my mirror and my left eye was blood shot. so i attempted to take out the contact and my eye hurt when i touched it. it is still bloodshot even though i got out the contact. is this anything to worry about? oh, and my left lens is a toric lens because i have an astigmatism in my left eye.

Answers:

Hey there! I'm assuming that your contacts are not extended wear for overnight use. If you over-wear your contacts your cornea will not be able to tolerate it. Wearing lenses for extended periods of time can block oxygen to the cornea, making it more susceptible to infections Also improper contact lens wear can result in a corneal ulcer. This happens when the surface of the cornea is damaged or compromised. This is more serious because bacteria may be on the lens or in your cleaning solutions, thus, they get trapped on the under surface of the lens. If your lenses are left in your eyes for long periods of time, these bacteria can multiply and cause damage to the cornea.
The best thing to do is take a break from wearing your contact lenses. If you have any pain, discharge, change in vision, or a sensation that something is in your eye then please see a doctor. When it comes to your eyes its always better safe then sorry hun :) good luck
