Optically, as the power of a lens increases (it doesn't matter whether it is a spectacle lens or a contact lens) the thickness of the lens will increase. If it is a near sighted lens then the edge will be thicker. If it is a far sighted lens then the center will be thicker. So, yes, there will be minuscule differences in the center thickness of a lens depending upon the power. That is why a low powered lens tends to be more difficult to handle on the finger. Being thinner, it tends not to hold its shape as well and therefore is more difficult to manipulate. BUT, as far as the comfort and fit of the lens goes, these differences are generally not an issue. That is because all contact lenses have peripheral curves toward the edge of the lens that taper the shape of the lens edge as you move out toward the edge. The sensation of the "thickness" of a lens is really based on how the lens feels as the lid moves over the edge on a blink. A thicker lens with a comfortable edge design may actually FEEL thinner than a thinner lens with a less comfortable edge design. So really don't worry too much about the thickness of the lens. With todays high oxygen permeable lenses thickness really isn't much of an issue anymore. Work with your optometrist on finding a good lens with an edge design that feels comfortable and you should be just fine. Hope this helped.

No it won't be thicker, just a stronger prescription, glasses on the other hand will be thicker.... That's the great thing about contacts, honey, if your vision sucks, you don't always have to look like a coke bottle geek!!!!

Good luck!!!

No. I have really bad vision-20/350 in my right, and 20/450 in my left. My contacts are the same thickness as other friends who have better vision. They all seem to be the same thickness.

same size as one with hardly any power. much better than glasses with regards to the stronger the prescription is, the thicker.

I have incredibly bad vision, and have worn contact lenses for over 20 years now -- at the advise of my eye doctor. The lenses for my glasses are incredibly thick. The thickness of the lens does not change. It's pretty much paper thin. I whole heartedly recommend trying contact lenses. Changed my life. May be hard for you to get used to, but makes life so much easier.

no. all the same.
