Big difference in power for glasses and contacts?!

Question: I already asked this but I didn't get any answers. If you can help please do! I went to the eye doctor yesterday to get my annual exam and get my contacts updated. I thought my vision had gotten worse and I was right. It was R: -1.25 and L:-1.00. Now it is -1.75 in both eyes. After my exam I went to the contacts part of the office and they had me put my old contacts in. They tested my vision again and apparently I could read the 20/20 line it was a stretch though. They said they didn't need to update that perscription. So they glasses perscription my doctor gave me said my vision was -1.75 but my contacts one still says -1.25 and -1.00. My question is why wouldn't they give me -1.75 in contacts? I feel like things could be clearer I had noticed this before I went to the doctor. I know that what I saw with the machine when they refracted( i think thats the word) my eyes was better than this. What should I do? Why would they not use the perscription the doctor gave them? Thanks so much!

West and Lindal are both incorrect.

The fact that contacts fit closer to the eye than glasses have nothing to do with it until your glasses Rx reaches 4.50...THEN the power of the contacts has to be compensated for.

At a -1.75 , your glasses and contacts should be the same prescription.

There is no logical reason why the left you with lenses a .025 and a 0.50 weaker. That is a huge difference in a mild correction like that.

Unless you are in your early 40's and are starting to have trouble reading when you have your contacts on.

Contact lenses go directly onto the eye. Since you don't wear your glasses directly on the eye ball, they need to be stronger to compensate for the distance between your eye and the lense.

Call them back and ask for trials in the -1.75. If they work, tell your doctor that's what you want. You have the right to question things like this.

West is absolutely correct. Contacts are right on your eyes and glasses are not so they would be stronger. If the -125 are giving you a little problem they can tweak the -125 to -150 and the -100 to -125. I know if you are borderline between which it clearer, 1 or 2 they take the lower one. They don't like to over strain the eye my doc says. I'm hoping for some progressive toric contact lens and hope they work out for me.
Anyone have toric progressive contacts? I'd like to hear your story.
