Can you get a contact lens prescription from your glasses?!

Question: i got my glasses here in the US and went to Canada for vacation and got my contacts there. i didnt need a seperate contact lens exam because they took the prescription from my glasses.
is this possible to do again?
i am trying to order new contacts but i threw out my boxes.
so is it possible to get your prescription from your glasses, or even your contacts? (i am currently wearing my last pair)

In Canada, there is no such thing as a contact lens prescription. So you can take your eyeglass Rx where ever you want, and be fitted by an optician for contacts, who will do the conversion that may be needed from 1 Rx to the other.

But in the US...the Optometrists have the contact lens business pretty well tied up by having to prescribe the brand, parameters...ect...

So, it boils down to , in the US, you have to have a contact lens Rx from an Optometrist to get contacts.

For Bec....

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to make the conversion from the glasses Rx to the contact Rx.

Of course a fitting is done anyway, the K's are taken...all the same thing as the OD would do.

At least the consumers aren't limited to one brand that the OD decided on. If they decide to go for coloured lenses, they don't have to go back to the Dr. just for that.

don't know for sure would call my eye doctor and check or try contacting the place in Canada where you got them and see if they can ship them to you Good Luck

In the UK that's illegal! Contact lenses have to be fitted and your prescription tailored to your specific needs. Your glasses and contact lens prescriptions are not the same, so I don't know what the optician in Canada was thinking but it's not right!

Yes. Can get from spec but no contacts
