Do transition lenses work when its cold?!

Question: Do transition lenses work when its cold?
My husband got his pair of transition glasses yesterday. He went to work today and they are not working. He even sat outside for 10 minutes right in the sunlight. The only thing we can figure is they dont work in the cold? its 20 out.. Any ideas?

Answers:

Yes they do work when it is cold. The lens transition using UV light, it doesn't utilize temperature at all. If your husband is sitting in the sun and they aren't darkening they might have screwed up at the lab and aren't transition at all. I would take them back to the store immediately to have them replaced.

they will get darker in cold weather..........its the heat from suns rays that make it change
photo chemical reaction....Plastic photochromic lenses rely on organic photochromic molecules (for example oxazines and naphthopyrans) to achieve the reversible darkening effect.

The temp has nothing to do with it. I had transition lenses and they turned regardless of the temp. You might want to take them back to wherever you got them and tell them they don't work.

They work the best when it is cold and bright. Actually lose some performance when they get hot.
