Am I just lucky for not taking off my contact lenses?!

Question: Am I just lucky for not taking off my contact lenses?
It has been a year now since I first used my contacts. For the past 6 months, I would wear my contacts constantly without taking them off, through sleep and showers and everything. I would only take them off monthly to replace them with new contacts. So basically I sleep with them on for about 30 days and a lot of people say not to sleep with them on for more than 2 days. I do this so I wouldn't have to frequently buy new contacts. My eyes were already horrible to begin with, having a prescription of -6 for both eyes. So I would know if the contacts rolled back when I wake up. But I would just have to keep blinking, and then they move and go back to place. So am I just lucky that nothing wrong happened to my eyes during this time period like infections, etc.? Or is everyone else wrong about the eyes needing oxygen and whatnot?

that's really bad for your eyes. It can give you diseases, some that make you go blind.

While some contacts can be worn day and night, they have to be replaced a lot more often. Example, I replace my contacts 2 times a month. If I wore them day and night, they would have to be replaced every 4-6 days.

yes, just lucky.

Depends on the brand you are wearing. Are you wearing Air Optix Night & Day? Those can be worn for 30 days without being taken out.

The real risk here is not getting enough oxygen. The longer you do this for the longer your eyes don't get enough oxygen for. The problem with that is you dont' get a lot of warning as your lenses feel comfortable because as the eye is damaged you lose the ability to feel pain. First sign will be that you can't see properly with your lenses and by that time its possible that your eyes are damaged past healing. I had this years ago because I had hard lenses ( not gas permeable) and at teh time teh optiicans were saying if they are comfortable wear them as long as you like. Once my vision started to blur ( and we're talking quite a long time here as i was good at blinking) I went to another optician who promptly confiscated my lenses and said it was possible my vision would be damaged permanently past being restored by contacts/glasses. I was lucky - my eyes did heal , but weeks of not being able to have either glasses ( perscription to unstable) or contacts and a LOT of pain as my eyes healed was one of the worst experiences of my life. Do NOT do this. Contacts are fantastic things but they do cost money and if you try and skimp on them you are putting your eyesight at risk. Even if your eyes healed you might never be able to wear lensees again.
