Question: I have high myopia, how can i keep my eyes from getting worse??plz help?
Hi, i am 14 yrs old and have about -5.5 diopters in both eyes, i see floaters sometimes as well. I had recently visited a renown eye doctor, and told me that everything's fine. How can i keep my eyes from increasing their myopia? or most importantly, would i go through any "problems" with my eyes and sight as i grow older?

Thanks in advance!

There are plenty of people who say there are cures for myopia. Scientific studies show no evidence to support the claims made for these. Also if you look at why your are myopic there seems no logica reason why they should. If there was somethgn which worked noone would use glasses. It is a function of growing and vision tends to stablize in your 20's.

Now for the more cheerful bit, even if your eyesight does get worse its unlikely it won't be fully correctable by glasses/contacts - opticians on here talk about perscriptions which go tot the -20's. You may have the option of surgery as you grow older. Also new aids may be available. when I was your age contacts were virtually unheard of they were so new and only came in hard lenses which were painful to wear in. Now everyone has contacts and surgery is another option. New and better contacts and glasses come out all the time - who knows what developments you will see. I had your sort of perscription at your age and its not too much worse now although I do have astigmatism as well. With glasses /contacts I get fully corrected visions.

As you get older all people tend to have more problems seeing things close to. Its one of the effects of aging. Being shortsighted now doesn't make a difference to this, but it may actually help as teh 2 things interact as you grow older. You'll find full explanations of this if you search other answers. There seems ot be some evidence that beign myopic gives you a slightly greater risk of other eye conditions, but so do many genetic things.

Myopia is usually caused by both natural lengthening of the eye due to changes esp during teen years, and muscle retention in the eyes. If much close work is done without reading glasses, they eyes may not relax completely causing it to focus on a shorter distance than it should. Glasses make up for this by bending the light so that it focuses on the correct part of your partially contracted eye. But i digress; use reading glasses when doing close work, but you will still be myopic no matter what you do b/c of the natural lengthening.

there's nothing you can do, it's all about the shape of your eyes. Eat healthily, wear your glasses and if in doubt, get a checkup.

exercises, special diets etc are all scams.

You can't DO anything to stop your eyesight from changing, other than finish growing. The changes in your eyesight should slow down over the next few years, and will probably stabilize when you get up around 20 or so.
