The bottom line here is that its going to depend on how fast your eyes stop being dry. Now the optometrist can't 100% predict taht and you are going to need to be rechecked before you start using them again.
I know this is a bit brutal but if you are so easily distracted that wearing glasses is a problem driving , what other things in the car might distract you and make driving unsafe? If you wear your glasses all day for a fortnight or so it could well be that you will stop noticing the frames.
Did your doctor have you schedule a follow up to evaluate the effectiveness of the drops? If so, discontinue CL use until you have that follow up. If not, contact the doc and ask. She should have given you those instructions when you were seen and should be able to counsel you over the phone. And she's right. Having dry eyes is like having chapped skin. It is open and more susceptible to infection

The answer is so simple. Follow whatever you doctor says. Your doctor can precisely gauge the condition of your eyes. If you insist wearing your contacts you are likely to get corneal ulcers.
