As has been said you do need an eye test first and those can cost a variable amoiunt of money. With glasses be careful - sometimes you get what you pay for and the quality of the frames , lenses and coatings makes a huge difference to your vision and how long the glasses last for. The advantage of buying from the person who perscribed teh lenses is that if the glasses have problems ( sometimes perscriptions aren't perfect or the lenses aren't quite right or set properly in the frames) then that person has responsibility for making sure that the glasses are corrected. They also tend to help out with routine maintenance if you bend the frames slightly for example which can otherwise be costly. Shoip round and see what is on offer and think about the whole package . Big chains dont' always offer the best or cheapest service although it can seem that way initially.

I think you should check out lens prices at www.replacementlensexpress.com and see which lens is best for you. Then e-mail them at info@replacementlensexpress.com and discuss the ordering process. I had a great experience with them cause their customer service reps were friendly and very responsive. They are based in Connecticut, so I got my replacement lenses quickly and the quality was high. (Most online companies outsource to China these days :-/ )

If you already have a pair of frames you like, then you can just get the new lenses and save loads of money. If you want frames too, you'll have to do some more homework and find out which ones you like (best to try on in the store) and then e-mail them and ask for a price quote. Overall, this company is definitely gonna save you money, you just need to ask them about all of their deals cause their website is new and they haven't yet put their entire line of eyeglass frames on it. Just all the lenses are there.

You shouldn't buy glasses unless you get a prescription from an eye doctor, so see one of those first. After, buy the glasses from the optometrist itself or from any eyeglasses store. (They're all the same when it comes to lens and frame quality.)

I usually buy from here. It's cheap and I'm really satisfied till now http://www.squidoo.com/discount_eyeglass_frames
