Can eyesight improve over time?!

Question: Can eyesight improve over time?
Here is the situation. I just went to a new eye doctor (different health insurance. Lame) Anyways, during the exam he asked me if I knew what my previous rx was. I told him it was -5.25 (yes, very nearsighted) and during the exam he determined my new rx is now -4.75. He then told me I must have been mistaken because eyesight doesn't improve over time? I'm looking at my contact lens box right now and it clearly says -5.25 on it. So is this guy just an idiot, or is it possible that he screwed up my prescription? Or both? Just curious :)

Answers:

Two points here. Firstly eyesight CAN improve over time, although it is much more common for it to get slightly worse.

Secondly - the contact lens prescription will NOT be the same as your glasses prescription because the lens sits on your eve instead of 12-15cm in front of it. The higher your prescription, the more difference will be.

So if the new guy was talking about your glasses prescription I'm not surprised its different. I have to say though its isn't normal practise to ask the patient what their last prescription was! It should be taken from your glasses or lenses, or a copy of the prescription from last time!

Go back to him and ask if you were both talking about the same thing. If that doesn't help get a second opinion.

Dispensing Optician.

Get a 2nd or 3rd opinion and eye sight does not improve overtime when you get older as many factors are involve such as lens get larger and thicker and the back of the eye get further away from the eyeball and difficult in focusing since the eye muscle is no longer as supple as it use too.

i dunno whats wrong with your doc but sure eyesight can improve over time. he may have screwed up.
cause i know this person. she was orignally -2.75. then she was like on the bed almost everyday and didn't watch too much electronic stuff. then her eyesight improve to -2.50 or something!
